

MUSCAT: Electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman rose 6.8 per cent during the first five months of 2026, while water production declined, according to preliminary data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Total electricity generation reached 20,314 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by the end of May, up from 19,027.4 GWh in the corresponding period of 2025.
Net electricity production, which includes power purchased by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also increased 6.8 per cent to 19,717.5 GWh, compared with 18,457.6 GWh a year earlier.
Meanwhile, total water production fell 3.4 per cent to 201.3 million cubic metres by the end of May.
Muscat Governorate recorded the largest decline, with production falling 6.8 per cent to 78 million cubic metres from 83.7 million cubic metres during the same period of 2025.
In contrast, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased 2.9 per cent to 32.1 million cubic metres, compared with 31.2 million cubic metres a year earlier.
Production across the remaining governorates declined 2.5 per cent to 91.2 million cubic metres, down from 93.5 million cubic metres in the first five months of 2025. — ONA
